Professor Campbell Shittu (CS) Momoh, was Momoh family’s foremost academic and the first child of Otaru Momoh to earn a doctorate. He was the 180th child of Momoh the first and was the last of 4 children his mother, Anima, had for Momoh the First.

Professor C.S. Momoh was educated at the University of Lagos where he earned a first degree in philosophy and history (combined honours). He then proceeded to Indiana University, Bloomington, United States, where he had his doctorate in 1979. Professor Momoh spent all his working life at the Department of Philosophy, University of Lagos. He was also the Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2000 to 2005 and a member of the university senate and governing council. 

As an academic, Professor C.S. Momoh was of the view that philosophy, no matter how abstract, must address the fundamental problems and the betterment of society. Towards this, he was at the forefront of preaching religious and ethnic tolerance, and founded the National Association for Religious and Ethnic Tolerance that brought people of diverse religious backgrounds to harmonize their submissions for a peaceful co-existence.

Professor C.S. Momoh published books and articles on African Philosphy and supervised many students (up to doctoral level) some of whom have become Professors today. He used his position as Professor to assist as many Auchi indigenes to get university education by giving them recommendations, paying their fees and accommodating them in his quarters.

He passed on on the 16th of March, 2006.
