Auchi, now known as Auchi Sacred Kingdom (ASK) geolocated on latitude 7° 04′ 3.22″ N and longtitude 6° 15′ 48.96″ E, is located in north-eastern present-day Edo State of Nigeria. About 126 km from Benin City, it is the second most populous and cosmopolitan city in Edo State and has maintained this status for more than 100 years. This summary examines the origin of Auchi and the prominent role played by Momoh the First and his descendants towards her development.
