Prince Saibu Momoh, popularly referred to as S. Momoh, was born in the year 1922 as the 38th child of Momoh the 1st and the 1st of six children of his mother Asana aka Ahrobhuye, a very beautiful damsel from Ogbido, Uzairue clan.

He had his primary education at government secondary school, Auchi where he obtained his first school leaving certificate. With that in hand he did some clerical jobs but soon made up his mind to join the Nigeria Police Force as a recruit.

He rose quickly through the ranks having displayed great intelligence and dedication to duty.

As a junior officer, he served in Sapele and environs where his intelligence and dedication to duty was taken note of. In no time at all he rose to the rank of inspector. As it was typical of the police service then, he was transferred to the then Western Region traversing Ilaro to Ijebu Ode, then to Abeokuta (present-day Ogun State), Ibadan (Oyo State) and later Lagos.

Momoh was a fearless and upright officer. He was entrusted with various celebrated cases. He was attached to the Criminal Investigation Department. To facilitate his police investigative work, he was sent on course to Scotland Yard in the UK. Among his course mates were Late Chief Tony Anenih (later a key figure in Edo State politics), Late Alhaji K.O. Tinubu who rose to the post of Assistant Inspector General (A.I.G.) of Police.

The last office he served before his earthly departure was at Alagbon Close, Lagos, He was head of the intelligence unit of the C.I.D

Momoh was a philanthropist and very compassionate. He is remembered for being a thoroughbred officer and a loving family man. He loved so much to have his brothers, sisters and their children around. Most weekend evenings were like party time in his residence. His love for family brought him home as many times as his work would allow him. It was on one of such visits home to spend his annual leave from work that he took ill and passed on at the peak of his career on the 29th of July 1969.

He was 47.

Momoh was married and sired 6 children. Amongst them was Usman Saibu Momoh, his first son; who followed in his marks and joined the police and turned out to be a fine officer.
